About The Event
Allison will present sound clips, videos, and documented examples of a variety of songs, clicks, hisses, and creative percussion beats created by arthropods, and discuss the current understanding of how and why these sounds are produced. It will be a night of love songs, alarm calls, and many-legged dance beats.
Allison Dehnel is an entomologist currently living in Missoula and employed in the pest control industry. She is an enthusiastic bug nerd and loves having the opportunity to share her excitement for all things arthropod. As one example of this enthusiasm, she volunteered at the 2017 Insectarium Halloween Craft Party in a katydid costume complete with a chirping sound effect - it was fabulous. This sparked a conversation of how many weird noises bugs make. They make so many fascinating sounds, it seemed like a worthy topic for public discussion over beers.
