About The Event

We love combining delicious Draught Works brews with cool bug talks and speakers. Join us for the February Bugs and Brews presentation: Monarch Butterflies in the Bitterroot Valley!

About the Talk:

Come learn the latest on the western monarch population status and hear about Maggie's recent trip to overwintering sites in California. Maggie will talk also about her findings from the Bitterroot Monarch Project's first year of milkweed surveys in the Bitterroot Valley, as well as her captive rearing and tagging efforts last summer.

About Maggie:

Maggie Hirschauer is a wildlife biologist coordinating the Bitterroot Monarch Project through the MPG Ranch. Maggie first realized her passion for animals while working on a llama farm in her hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. She spent several years volunteering at wildlife rehabilitation facilities to return injured owls and eagles to the wild. Most of her 20's were spent traveling in Africa. She lived in East Africa for several years habituating and researching chimpanzees in a remote part of Uganda and blue monkeys in Kenya. She obtained her Masters’ degree in Zoology while working in South Africa with VulPro’s Endangered Cape vulture captive breeding and reintroduction program. She now works part-time at a veterinary clinic with small and large animals while working seasonally at the MPG Ranch, contributing to winter mountain lion tracking and summer butterfly conservation research.
